항렬 • (hangnyeol)
- generation in a descent group (how distantly one is descended from a common ancestor, i.e. a great-grandson of somebody has a "higher" 항렬 (hangnyeol) than a great-great-grandson regardless of their actual age; generally, people of the same 항렬 (hangnyeol) share a character in their name, no matter how distantly related)
- 나이는 어리지만 항렬이 높다
- nai-neun eorijiman hangnyeol-i nopda
- S/he is younger in age but of an older generation

- hangnyeol-i gatdamyeon ireum-e gateun hanja-reul sseuneun geos-i jangmyeong-ui cheolchig-ida.
- That one use the same hanja in a name if one's generation is the same is the iron rule of naming people.
