짤방
Korean
Etymology
Blend of 짤림 (jjallim, “being deleted”) + 방지 (bangji, “prevention”). The term originated around 2002 on the DC Inside forum, which was originally dedicated to sharing images, from the practice of attaching an image to an otherwise text post in order to both grab attention and stop moderators from deleting it for being irrelevant.
Pronunciation
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [t͡ɕ͈a̠ɭba̠ŋ]
- Phonetic hangul: [짤방]
