조현병
Korean
Etymology
Sino-Korean word from 調絃 (“tuning a stringed instrument”) + 病 (“disease”), i.e. disease of misattunement (of the brain).
This is a euphemistic name introduced by the Korean Medical Association in March 2011, in order to replace the former misnomer-ic and stigmatising name of 정신분열병 (精神分裂病, jeongsinbunyeolbyeong, “mind-splitting disease”).
