Etymology

오며 (omyeo, “while coming”) +‎ ㅇ (-ng, Middle Korean emphatic particle) +‎ 가며 (gamyeo, “while going”) +‎ ㅇ (-ng, Middle Korean emphatic particle). This is the only construction in which the particle in question survived into Early Modern Korean.
