오라비
Korean
Etymology
First attested in the Worin seokbo (月印釋譜 / 월인석보), 1459, as Middle Korean 오〮라비〮 (Yale: wólàpí).
Beyond Middle Korean, the word is etymologically a compound of *올 (*wol, “brother”) + 아비 (api, “father; (by extension) man”). The original word is not attested in isolation but survives in the Middle Korean compound word 오〮누의〮 (Yale: wónwùúy, "brothers and sisters; siblings"), which is equivalent to *올 (*wol) + 누의 (nwùùy, “sister”).
