罢

罢(罷) [bà] 动

1. ■ （停; 歇） stop; cease:

罢手 give up;

欲罢不能 try to stop but cannot; cannot refrain from carrying on;

决不罢休 will not give up; will not let the matter drop

2. ■ （免去; 解除） dismiss; terminate; recall:

罢职 dismiss; terminate official duties; remove from office

3. ■ [方] （完了; 完毕） finish:

听罢 finish listening;

吃罢饭 after dinner;

说罢， 他站了起来。 With these words [In so saying] he stood up.

4. ■ （罢论; 算了） let it be [pass]; abandoned idea; forget about it:

也罢 all right, then;

作罢 let the matter drop
