Etymology
Contraction of 마마 (mama) and honorific particle 님 (nim) mainly used in colluqial or dialecital speech by servants of rich families in countryside; the full form was used when speaking to people in government positions.
Pronunciation

- Phonetic hangul: [마(ː)님]
- Though still prescriptive in Standard Korean, the great majority of speakers (in both Koreas) no longer distinguish vowel length.
