Usage notes
딩딩 (dingding) is the yin vowel, or dark vowel, form of 댕댕 (daengdaeng).
In contemporary Korean, the yin vowels refer to /ʌ/, /e/, /u/, and often /i/. In Korean ideophones and sensory words, forms with these vowels have a connotation of darkness, largeness, murkiness, bluntness, old age, or negativeness.Perhaps due to the ongoing merger of Korean /e/ and /ɛ/, this yin form uses the generally neutral /i/ instead of the expected /e/.
