Etymology 4

From Middle Korean 뉘〯 (Yale: nwǔy, “world; time; epoch; era”), from earlier 누리〮 (Yale: nwùlí), from Old Korean 世理 (*NWUri). Doublet of 누리 (nuri), apparently borrowed directly from Middle Korean. The pronunciation given in the Standard Korean Language Dictionary has an unexpectedly short vowel length, for unknown reasons.
