Etymology

The Gyeongsang dialect form of Standard Central Korean 남이야 (nam-iya, as for other people), which apparently spread into Seoul Korean in the late twentieth century with South Korean modernization.

  1. (colloquial, derogatory) Used in place of 남이야 (nam-iya, as for other people) when dismissing people who are too nosy, with a connotation of "none of your business".

    Why do you even care about what other people are doing?

Usage notes

남이야 (nam-iya), which already had a rather dismissive connotation, is being increasingly displaced by 이사 (nam-isa) in colloquial Seoul Korean.
