난데없이
Korean
Etymology
Univerbation of 난 (nan, “which has appeared”, past adnominal form of 나다 (nada, “to appear”)) + 데 (de, “place”) + 없이 (eopsi, “without”): "without place to appear".
Pronunciation
- (SK Standard/Seoul) IPA(key): [ˈna̠(ː)nde̞ʌ̹pɕ͈i]
- Phonetic hangul: [난(ː)데업씨]
- Though still prescriptive in Standard Korean, the great majority of speakers (in both Koreas) no longer distinguish vowel length.
