First attested in the Seokbo sangjeol (釋譜詳節 / 석보상절), 1447, as Middle Korean ᄭᆞ자ᇰ〮 (Yale: skòcáng).

껏 • (-kkeot)
- to the utmost of, as much as
- 마음 (ma'eum, “mind”) + 껏 (-kkeot) → 마음껏 (ma'eumkkeot, “to one's heart's content”)
- 재량 (jaeryang, “discretion”) + 껏 (-kkeot) → 재량껏 (jaeryangkkeot, “at one's discretion”)
