Etymology

갱치 (gaengchi) +‎ 없다 (eopda, “to not have”). The first component could potentially be from a dialectal form of Sino-Korean word from 경치 (gyeongchi, “景致”) meaning scenery or view. Hence, the literal meaning could plausibly be 'to lack scenery' or 'to lack a view', in a negative sense.

Usage Notes

While the adjective is also commonly said as ‘갱치가 없다', speakers of the Pyongan dialect appear to view it as it's own adjective in the form of '갱치없다'.
