Etymology
Old Japanese [Term?]. 鵜萱 (ugaya, “cormorant feathers for thatching roof”) + 葺き (fuki, stem of 葺く (fuku, “to thatch”)) + 合えず (aezu, negative conjugated form of 合う (au, “to meet”), or related to 合わせる (awaseru, “to put together”), signifying incompleteness). The literal meaning could be "Incompletely Thatched with Cormorant Feathers". The name describes the circumstance of his birth, in a parturition hut that hadn't been completely thatched with cormorant feathers. For spellings of negative verb forms with 不, see 不開の門 (akazu no mon), 不喰芋 (kuwazuimo), 座不冷 (zamasazu), 不忍 (Shinobazu), 不寝 (nezu), 腹不立 (haratatezu), 不見不聞 (mizu kikazu).
