  田舎町(ゐなかまち)の習慣(しふくわん)として、婚礼(こんれい)とか祭礼(さいれい)とか、葬式(さうしき)、法要(ほふえう)などが盛(さか)んで、狭(せま)い町中(まちぢゆう)がお互(たが)ひの家(いへ)の奥向(おくむ)きの様子(やうす)など手(て)にとる如(ごと)く知(し)り合(あ)つてゐるほど交際(かうさい)が密(みつ)であつたから、家(いへ)ごとに何(なに)かあるといつも同(おな)じやうな顔(かほ)ぶれ、つまり殆(ほとん)ど町中(まちぢゆう)の人(ひと)が時期(じき)と場所(ばしよ)を変(か)へただけで寄(よ)り集(あつま)ることが多(おほ)かつた。
