Stem of classical adjective 逸早し (ichihayashi, “quick, swift; harsh, unforgiving; fierce”).
The prefix 逸 (ichi-, ateji) is cognate with adverbs 甚 (ita, ito, “painfully; greatly, much”).[1][2]
