Etymology
From non-central dialect of Old Japanese which has undergone the vowel change <*əi → e₂> instead of <*əi → i₂>, from Proto-Japonic *ə̀kəi-, ultimately from Proto-Japonic *əku. Compare Proto-Ryukyuan *oke-ᴮ.
