- Compare Proto-Tibeto-Burman *was (“honey, bee”) (Benedict, 1972) or semantically closer Proto-Waic *wak "insect" (Schuessler, 2007), the latter from Proto-Palaungic *ʋaːk (“insect, worm”) (Sidwell, 2015).
