     Passing [the throne] down a single lineage, without any break up to today, is something not even the sage-kings of China could do; it is strange indeed [that the Japanese have achieved this]. And the laws of fengjian are well-enacted there; furthermore, one cannot ignore the intricacies of their machinery and the regularity of their systems simply because they are barbarians.
