Etymology

白亜 (hakua, “white chalk”) +‎ 紀 (-ki, “period”); appears no later than 1883 (in the book 地学要略), but the precise time is unknown.

亜 is a daiyōji replacing 堊.

     “Orunitomimusu” Hakuaki kōhan no dachōgata kyōryū. Mō-supīdo de hashirimawaru. Zasshokusei. Ko no mi nado nan demo taberu.

     Ornithomimus: Ostrich-like dinosaurs of the late Cretaceous. These are extremely fast runners. They are also omnivores. They eat fruit and other things.
