Etymology
/seuki/ → /ɕeuki/ → /ɕʲoːki/
From Middle Chinese compound 沼氣 (tsyewX khjɨjH, literally “pool, pond, swamp + vapors, gas”). Compare modern Cantonese reading ziu2 hei3.
