正格 (“regular”) + 活用 (“inflection”)
Pronunciation

úkáꜜtsùyòò] (Nakadaka – [5]) - IPA(key): [se̞ːka̠kɯ̟̊ᵝ ka̠t͡sɨᵝjo̞ː]
Noun
正格活用 • (seikaku katsuyō) ←せいかくくゎつよう (seikaku kwatuyou)?
- a Japanese verbal inflection that is considered regular
- Antonym: 変格活用
- Hyponyms: 上一段活用, 上二段活用, 五段活用, 下一段活用, 下二段活用, 四段活用
Usage notes
- Regularity is mostly noted as to whether the six 活用形 (katsuyōkei, “inflectional forms”) of verbs deviate too much from an expected pattern or not. Even among the so-called "regular" verbs, there are still slight irregularities. See 下さる (kudasaru), 行く (iku) and 問う (tou) which have such irregularities.
