Etymology

Apparently formed of 弓(きゅう)状(じょう) (kyūjō, “arched”) + 束(そく) (soku, “bundle”); compare Latin fasciculus arcuatus (literally “curved bundle”).(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

     Destruction of the left arcuate fasciculus results in conduction aphasia, and is associated with bilateral visual agnosia, presumably due to damage to the interior longitudinal fasciculus.
