Etymology
Compound of 夜 (yo, “night”) + 咲 (saki, “blooming”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 咲く (saku, “to bloom”)) + 睡蓮 (suiren, “water lily”). The saki changes to zaki as an instance of rendaku (連濁).
