- The pronunciation of Chinese hanzi characters used in the Tang and Song dynasties of China. It is mainly limited to Zen vocublary, and has less influence on general expressions.
- A category of on'yomi (音読み), the Japanese approximation of the original Chinese pronunciation.
- The kanji pronunciation first brought to Japan by late Song Chinese Monks during the Kamakura Period.
