   • 1953, Mokichi Saitō, Manyō shūka‎, volume 1, 14:

     この巻 (まき)七 (しち)の歌 (うた)も古 (ふる)い調 (ちょう)子 (し)のものだから、どちらかが原 (げん)歌 (か)で他 (ほか)は少 (すこ)し変 (へん)化 (か)したものであろう。

     Kono maki shichi no uta mo furui chōshi no mono da kara, dochira ka ga genka de hoka wa sukoshi henka shita mono dearō.

     As this poem in scroll 7 also features an old style, one of the two must be the original and the other a slight variation.
