Unknown. Either borrowed from English masochism with minor modification based on the transcription of the German sounds /z/ (spelled s) and [x] (spelled ch), or a calque of English masochism, equivalent to マゾッホ (Mazohho, from German Masoch) +‎ イズム (-izumu, “-ism”). Compare German Masochismus [mazoˈxɪsmʊs].
