Etymology
/ponsu/ → /ponzu/
A shift in pronunciation from earlier ポンス (ponsu), borrowed from Dutch pons (“punch”, obsolete, superseded by punsch). The use of the 酢 kanji is an example of ateji.[1][2][3]
