- (military) to recruit for and wage a campaign; plan and execute an operation (as part of a battle or war)
- (perfect, military) to conclude a campaign
- (middle, military) to take the field (for combat operations)
- (passive, military) to be in the field (said of a general or his troops on a battlefield)
