Etymology

From Proto-Indo-European *h₂enǵʰ-. Cognates include Old English enge (whence the first element in English hangnail), Latin angō, Sanskrit अंहु (aṃhu), and Old Armenian անձուկ (anjuk, “narrow, tight”).
