单词 ἄγγος
释义

ἄγγος

Ancient Greek

Etymology

Traditionally derived from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éngos, from the root *h₂eng- (to curve). Alternatively from a Pre-Greek stratum; many words for "vessel" are mentioned by Homer but are loaned from outside Indo-European, possibly one or more Near Eastern languages. If the latter, it may be cognate with Persian آمه (āme, inkwell).
