Etymology
From Old Persian 𐏃𐎧𐎠𐎶𐎴𐎡𐏁 (h-x-a-m-n-i-š /Haxāmaniš/, literally “having the mind of someone allegiant”)[1], from *haxā- (“he who is bound by allegiance, someone allegiant”) + *mani- (“mind, mentality”), from Proto-Indo-European *sekʷ- (“to follow”) and *men- (“to think”), whence ἕπομαι (hépomai) and μένος (ménos).
