Etymology

From Proto-Germanic *mīnanǭ, masculine accusative singular of *mīnaz. The shift of *-an- to -in- can also be seen in ᚺᚨᛁᛏᛁᚾᚨᛉ (haitinaz) (from *haitanaz), ᛊᛚᚨᚷᛁᚾᚨᛉ (slaginaz) (from *slaganaz). For more information see Ringe 2014, pages 18-20.
