As Arabic أَرْز‎ (ʾarz, “cedar”) borrowed from Aramaic אַרְזָא‎ / ܐܪܙܐ‎ (ʾarzā, “cedar”). It being a tree by far not native to Ethiopia, the word may as well have been understood as any tall tree.
