Old Georgian

Etymology

According to Diakonoff, derived by metathesis from the name of the country called 𒆳𒋢𒄭 (/Suḫmu/) in Akkadian and [script needed] (Zuhma) in Hittite. It was located in the upper Euphrates valley, i.e. close to South-Caucasian tribes, and was at some time inhabited by Proto-Armenians.[1] Cognate with Laz სუმეხი (sumexi).

      da colad misa iq̇o asuli vardanisi, somexta sṗayṗeṭisay, romlisatwis ese mivc̣ere tkuenda, mamisagan saxelit vardan, da siq̇uarulit saxeli misi šušaniḳ, mošiši ɣmrtisay, vitarca-igi vtkut, siq̇rmitgan twisit.

        And his wife was the daughter of Vardan, generalissimo of the Armenians, bearing the name of Varden, or Rose, after her father, and the pet-name of Shushanik, or Susanna; and she lived in the fear of God from her childhood days.
