From Old Georgian ოქრო (okro), ოქროჲ (okroy), from Proto-Kartvelian *okro- (“gold”). Cognate with Mingrelian ორქო (orko), Laz ოქრო (okro) and Svan უ̂ოქუ̂რ (ûokûr), უ̂ოქრ (ûokr).
