ဂင်္ဂါ
Burmese
Etymology
Borrowed from Pali gaṅgā or Sanskrit गङ्गा (gaṅgā, literally “one who goes swiftly; one who flows rapidly”), from the verbal root गम् (gam, “to go”), from Proto-Indo-European *gʷem- (“to come”) (whence Latin veniō, Ancient Greek βαίνω (baínō), and English come).. Cognate with Khmer គង្គ (kŭəngkĕəʼ), គង្គា (kŭəngkiə); Lao ຄົງຄາ (khong khā), ກັງກາ (kang kā); Thai คงคา (kong-kaa).
