Either from Proto-Sino-Tibetan *s-grwa (“feather”), whence Chinese 羽 (Coblin, 1986; Gong Hwang-cherng, 2002; STEDT), or *w(a/u) (“bird; egg; wing; fowl”) (Matisoff, 2000; Schuessler, 2007; Sagart, 2021b; STEDT).
