From Sanskrit संहार (saṃhāra, “destroyer; destroying”). Compare Old Khmer saṅhār (“destruction; the end of the world; used as slave name”); Modern Khmer សង្ហារ (sɑnghaa, “to destroy; to kill; to ruin; etc”), សំហារ (sɑmhaa, “to destroy; to kill; to ruin; etc”).
