1. (Buddhism, Hinduism) An underworld officer whose duty is to bring a dead person before the underworld court for trial.
2. (theology) an officer of the hell, especially one with a similar duty.
3. a crow (any of several birds of the genus Corvus and the family Corvidae, traditionally believed to be agents of the underworld).
4. (figuratively) anyone or anything that deprives a living creature of its life or that brings death.
