Etymology 1

From Proto-Tai *miːᴬ (“to have”). Cognate with Northern Thai ᨾᩦ, Khün ᨾᩦ, Lao ມີ (mī), Lü ᦙᦲ (mii), Tai Dam ꪣꪲ, Shan မီး (míi), Tai Nüa ᥛᥤᥰ (mi²), Zhuang miz.
