Related to Telugu నోత (nōta, “the performance of a devotional act”), Telugu నోము (nōmu, “to perform a religious act out of devotion, a devotion-motivated religious act.”). Cognate with Tamil நோல், நோன், நோற்ப், நோற்ற் (nōl, nōṉ, nōṟp, nōṟṟ, “to endure or suffer hunger as a form of penance or austerity.”), Tamil நோற்பு (nōṟpu, “perform penance.”), Tamil நோற்பார் (nōṟpār, “ascetic.”), Tamil நோன்பு, நோம்பு (nōṉpu, nōmpu, “fasting.”), Tamil நோன்மை (nōṉmai, “endurance, strength, greatness.”), Tamil நோன்றல் (nōṉṟal, “patience.”).
