Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit हीरग / 𑀳𑀻𑀭𑀕 (hīraga), from Sanskrit हीरक (hīraka). Cognate with Hindustani ہِیرَا / हीरा (hīrā), Marathi हिरा (hirā), Sindhi هيِرو / हीरो, Punjabi ਹੀਰਾ (hīrā) / ہِیرا (hīrā), Bengali হীরা (hīra), Assamese হীৰা (hira).
