- হাঁ (hã)
- অ্যাঁ (ôẏã), এ্যাঁ (eẏã) – Vaṅga
Etymology
A variant of the now rarer হাঁ (hã), ultimately from Sanskrit आम् (ām, “yes”), itself a variant of ॐ (oṃ). Cognate to Hindi हाँ (hā̃). The emphatic consonant is from হওয়া (hôwa, “to be”), truncated from Prakrit 𑀪𑀯𑀇 (bhavaï), from Sanskrit भवति (bhavati), and the influence of this verb occurs in other Indo-Aryan languages as well.[1]
