Etymology

Borrowed from Classical Persian محله‎, from Arabic مَحَلَّة‎ (maḥalla), which is from the verb حَلَّ‎ (ḥalla, “to untie”), as in untying a pack horse or camel to make camp. Doublet of মহলা (môhôla), মহল (môhôlô), and হালাল (halal).
