Inherited from Sanskrit ৱৃশ্চিক (vṛścika, “scorpion, hairy caterpillar”). Cognate with Sylheti ꠛꠤꠍꠣ (bisá), Bengali বিছা (bicha, “scorpion, hairy caterpillar”).
Doublet of বৃশ্চিক (brissik).
