From দিনাজ (dinaj) + পুর (pur), from Sanskrit दिनराज (dinarāja, “sun”, literally "day-king"), a compound of दिन (dina, “day”) + राज (rāja, “king”), + पुर (pura, “city”), named in honor of the Dinaj rulers of the region.
