Borrowed from Persian جامه (“garment, coat”), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *yām- (“to hold”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *yam-, from Proto-Indo-European *yem-. Doublet of ব্যায়াম (bẏayam, “exercise”).
