Etymology

From Portuguese alemão, ultimately from Latin Alamannī (“all men”), which was an ancient conglomeration of Teutonic tribes. Cognate with French allemand, Pashto المانی‎ and Turkish Alman. Doublet of আলমানী (almanī).
