mṛgā iva hastinaḥ khādathā vanā yadāruṇīṣu taviṣīrayugdhvam . - Mighty, with wondrous power and marvellously bright, selfstrong like mountains, ye glide swiftly on your way.
Like the wild elephants ye eat the forests up when ye assume your strength among the bright red flames.
- mahiṣāso māyinaścitrabhānavo girayo na svatavaso raghuṣyadaḥ .
- महिषासो मायिनश्चित्रभानवो गिरयो न स्वतवसो रघुष्यदः ।

Usage notes
In Vedic Sanskrit, the term appears in the neighbourhood of the term मृग (mṛga, “beast”), implying that it originally functioned purely as an adjective.
